Beautiful setting, good friends, tasty food, nice music and brilliant wines – what more could one ask for!
The Durbanville wine estates annually has this festival where they brag with their Sauvignon Blanc. Each estate is responsible for their own program, food, entertainment etc. Obviously you can taste the wines from each farm at their venue, but you can also taste the Sauvignon Blanc from all the other farms at each venue.
This year also saw a new invention whereby each farm harvested and delivered 1 ton of Sauvignon Blanc grapes at the same time, and delivered it to a central location, where a special wine, the “Durbanville Twelve” was produced. The 12 farms involved in the project are Altydgedacht, Bloemendal, D’Aria, De Grendel, Diemersdal, Durbanville Hills, Hillcrest, Klein Roosboom, Meerendal, Nitida, Phizante Kraal and Signal Gun.
The festivities at Altydgedacht included sets of live music by their own winemaker, Etienne Louw (guitar) and Steyn Loubser (sax), ex-band Foto na Dans, and Reini Adelbert. Background music between live sets was provided by DJ Gert.
DJ Gert with some young and beautiful fans. They forced him to wear his famous tie jacket despite the heat!
